Separated at Birth? The Simpson’s Poster Contest!

27 February, 2009 (14:05) | Data Comparisons

While watching the video at Anthony’s blog, I was struck by the resemblance between an anti-coal and a pro-nuke celebrity
Today, when I discovered there was A Simpson’s Poster Contest I was compelled to check the images Fox made available. My poster entry almost composed itself.
I predict Homer Simpson will try to join Jim Hansen at [...]

The Lukewarmer Mug Arrived!

25 February, 2009 (09:07) | Data Comparisons

My lukewarmer mug arrived:
As you can see, while hopped up on cough medicine, I crocheted some baby booties. They are for my neighbor’s new born daughter. (I talked to Julie last month and didn’t even notice she was pregnant! )
The mug looks beautiful. Based on the image at CafePress, I was afraid the text [...]

Protect Your Self Hosted WP blog.

23 February, 2009 (10:41) | Wordpress Plugins

Climate Audit is still down. Are you wondering what could happen if my server ever went down? Mostly, you wouldn’t be able to read the blog for some period of time– but the blog would soon reappear. I use the WP-Database backup plugin; I’ve set the plugin to send me email me [...]

Wait before upgrading to Wordpress 2.7.1

20 February, 2009 (17:10) | Wordpress Plugins

The wordpress dashboard is urging me to upgrade to 2.7.1. Being a cautious soul, I upgraded the test blog first.
Most things worked just fine. However, the display on the admin side goes wonky. See how the sidebar extends over the text describing plugins?
I had no problems upgrading my knitting blog to 2.7.0. [...]

Open Thread and a Silly Mug

19 February, 2009 (15:20) | Data Comparisons

Model projections
exceed earth temperatures:
Global luke warming.

This is an open thread to discuss whatever you want.
As long as I’ve opened the thread, I thought I’d solicit appropriate haikus to add to the back of this silly mug I posted at CafePress.com. If you think the graph is silly on a mug, you should see [...]

HadCrut in & How far off are projections based on anomalies?

18 February, 2009 (14:19) | Data Comparisons

HadCrut is in! The January temperature anomaly was 0.370C up 0.303C in December. Clearly, January was warmer than December.
Now I could do the usual and show how the trends. However, I’ve noticed new people often pop in and suggest the models would look good if only I examined the temperatures [...]

UPDATE:

Godwin’s law in action.

17 February, 2009 (16:40) | Data Comparisons

Explaining the actions we must take to save the planet from CO2, Bill McKibben provides evidence to support Godwin’s Law:
Now, these are three of the hardest tasks we’ve even thought about since we took on Hitler.
In case you are not familiar with the law, it is sometime expressed this way:
As an online discussion [...]

Monckton: Bullet list version.

17 February, 2009 (09:07) | Data Comparisons

I have corresponded with M of B. After some discussion, this is the bullet point version of how Monckton developed his projections show in pink and lavender in this graph posted at ICECAP:
1) He posits a best estimate for the climate sensitivity expressed in terms of the psuedo-equilibrium temperature, Te, response to doubling of [...]
