The most interesting discovery to me (other than finding out that sometimes very important people actually cook, clean and do laundry) is reading Briffa say that 1000 years ago it was as warm as the present. Briffa being the magician who created a hockey stick from Yamal, which said something quite different.

So there is no misinterpretation, I really believe you, Jeff Id, and all the others are in fact very important. Thank you.

Howard and PaulM yes this is a serious issue and the media and politics have been used for many years to push the AGW agenda. The methods have been to use every dirty trick in the book to win the argument. Given the methods used by the opposition this is perfectly valid politically. The parties involved are showing they are political activists not scientists. Their agenda is not science it is belief and has more to do with religion or self interest. If they are successful the consequences are major. In Oz four power stations in one state generating 6 to 8 GW will most likely go into administration as soon as our ETS is passed. From there our electricity price will skyrocket and blackouts will be the order of the day. This is not just a threat it is the way money works. As for you guys my guess is you are the opposition and should get back to RealClimate where you belong. So Lucia and the producers of the clip go for it I will certainly pass it on.

I agree with Paul. You need to provide a thorough analysis of the emails ASAP. I don’t know who you think you are, but you work for us and you darn well better get hopping.

The late 2009 emails about the last 10-years of no warming are the most interesting to me. Apparently some believe the heat is going into rain and escaping to space… but they don’t know. This seems to be very important. It’s nice to see their expert views when they let their guard down.

Overall they seem like a bunch of smart, hard working ambitious academics with the human foibles we all have.

You may not have noticed it, but I tend to post less substance on weekends. So, the situation is:
Late Thursday: posted that story broke.
Friday: Read lots of the emails… tried to figure out if it was true. Did some googleing to try to find out what I could determine about legality of reposting. (This was motivated by both a) something Gavin sent in an email to me on Friday and b) Mann’s suggestion it was illegal to repost.) I posted on that. Answering some people’s questions about whether there was anything “in” the emails about them. Trying to figure out what I think over all. (I still haven’t read them all.) Digesting some useful to me information in the emails.
Saturday: Cooked, cleaned, did laundry, hosted inlaws for usual Saturday. stuff. Posted funnier stuff I’d found.
Sunday: Was sent the youtube video. Thought it’s funny. Posted. Sent out several emails motivated by my interpretation of the useful to me information in the emails. Went to breakfast with said inlaws. Read comments. Went grocery shopping. Getting ready for inlaws and my family to get here for football game.

I may post what I think tomorrow– but I need to figure out which bits are post worthy. There are soooooo many possible topics:
A) Ethics of reposting? (I think it’s mostly fine. but boring.)
B) What the real fall out will be? (I think neither the activists nor the stone-colders are wrong about it … and I’m not sure I want to say. Some of the fall out will never be obvious.)
C) Is the mail fake or real: Mostly real.
D) What should people do in response?

Anyway, there are just too many topics!

C’mon Lucia. This is a serious issue. It’s not popular entertainment. It’s now pretty clear that the emails are genuine. And you’ve now had time to digest them.
Please can we have a serious posting about it?
What is your opinion of the emails?
