Climategate ranks 1,041 at Amazon!

Published 5 days ago, the Amazon Sales Rank of Mosher and Fuller’s “Climategate: The Crutape Letters (Volume 1)” has rocketed up to 1,041. Wow.

That it’s especially amazing because Climategate is an author published account. (Right Steve and Tom?)

Just to show you I’m not making this up, here’s a screenshot of the rank:

  1. Hey, there are reviews already! My copy is not going to be here for weeks I think. Doesn’t look like any of the reviewers have read the book. Check out the review’s ratings histogram. It’s bimodal (1’s and 5’s.) You either love it or hate it. (Judging a book by it’s cover?)

  2. Wow. Lucia, yes–it’s a self published book–couldn’t wait for publishers…

The scary thing is we haven’t really sold that many copies. It’s done better than we expected, but we’re not on track for a million seller, or anything like it. Which means that in general, book buying is concentrated very highly at the top. Which people have been saying for a long time, but this brings it home to me.

Thanks to everyone for the support–the community here has been just amazing in helping us get launched.

    Humble thanks to all.

  3. Re: Tom Fuller (Jan 19 20:49),

The economics of the publishing business is interesting. A million seller can lose the publisher money if they printed too many books in the first run. Conversely, the publisher can make a tidy sum from 30,000 sales if the print run was 31,000. OTOH, they won’t make nearly as much money if the first run sells out too soon and people can’t find a copy when it’s hot. Publishing on demand, as it were, has its attractions. So does electronic publishing, although piracy will be more of a problem.

  4. Yes a humble thanks to all especially bender, UC, jeanS, RomanM, Willis and all the regulars here and at CA. That includes, of course, people who push back on arguments, yes you Boris.

And Lucia for hosting one of the most delightful blogs in the climatewars space.

  5. A click on the authors’ names brings up other titles. Is our Steven Mosher the same as Steven W. Mosher who’s written books on population and China?

BTW, I saw the CTCL rank as high as 874 yesterday.

From the WSJ, more interesting economics concerning the publishing “business”:

    Michael Mann’s Climate Stimulus

… Last June, the foundation approved a $541,184 grant to fund work “Toward Improved Projections of the Climate Response to Anthropogenic Forcing,” which will contribute “to the understanding of abrupt climate change.” Principal investigator? Michael Mann.

He received another grant worth nearly $1.9 million to investigate the role of “environmental temperature on the transmission of vector-borne diseases.” Mr. Mann is listed as a “co-principal investigator” on that project. Both grants say they were “funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.” …

  7. When you type ‘clima’ into amazon.com, climategate comes up on the autosuggest list.
But then this book comes up only 6th on the list, after Sussman, Montford and others.
I see that Mosh gets his bio in twice, which seems a bit unfair on Tom!
The reviews make amusing reading, especially the comments on the negative reviews.
But the sales rank is down to 2327 🙁

  8. steven mosher: Maybe you do not wish to comment but: what is contained in volume 2 and when do you plan on releasing it?

  9. Add one more to the sold tally. 😉

I fully expect Climategate will be a Stay Awake Cold Tony’s Pizza At Midnight Page-Turner!

The best of continued success to the authors!

    Andrew

  10. Thanks Andrew–and everyone else.

We are now up on Kindle and also have a version up on Lulu.com, although the Lulu version doesn’t have ‘our’ cover up.
