So, shall we spin this as “October really was warm”, or “GISS really overestimated on that first try.”
The important question is: Can I win brownies by guessing the October anomaly when it’s published in December?
So has anyone looked into the Mar 02, Jan 07, or Jan 08 data? They appear to be candidates for errors as well.

A huge monthly error here, a huge monthly error there… if corrected, pretty soon the IPCC projections would be falsified.
Oh wait, they already have been.
Someone asked the question if there would have been all the hoohah about data quality if the inverse had happened and GISTEMP would have shown a significant drop. My guess is, no one would have made the connection and would have been dancing around the oracle that it was the final proof, yet another “final”, that the globe is cooling. Would Hansen and everyone else have been called to order and immediate correction be called for?
The series from January, which was the seeming low, to October added 0.44C. That’s the short term view observation.
JohnN and MikeC– I suspect at this point, there will be people looking at that. I’m going to let others do it though.
Sekerob– We don’t know what would have happened if the opposite occurred. Maybe there is so little involvement, no one would have noticed!
Sekerob, had the temperature suddenly dropped the data would have been looked over by the team and it would have never been released.

Bob B, that is as much speculation as mine whether yes or no. All the signals during the month were warmer. All the RTG charts were showing daily above, 3.5C for the Arctic, sometimes 5C, thus whoever glossed over the numbers did not think the hike was exceptional, that’s what I think.
Did you read the NCDC monthly? Air moves. What I see on the Rutgers snow maps is huge areal anomalies, world wide. Then, there is this new UN report on extensive dimming over China and surrounding countries due massive air pollution.
There is no agenda and there is no conspiracy and if there is bring me the proof. All the calls for “We need more date”, yet Triana is bound to the ground for it would be a very inconvenient truth to find out what earth’s real energy balance is.
For now, I think we are presently experiencing a highly smothered out GW.
Sekerob, I don’t trust surface measurements at all, I only trust UAH and RSS at this point. Both satellite measurements are in agreement that from Sept-Oct there was very little change. Hansen’s GIStemp is an outlier for the past 10yrs on the slope of the cooling Lucia has been showing in her charts

The Lower Troposphere does seem more variable! We should be getting an El Nino soon– we’ll see.
