Mike C wants to know how he can cash in his quatloos. This made me realize that I had no idea what a Quatloo looks like, so I went hunting for some honest to goodness Quatloos. I found this:
Clearly, The Providers must have been thinking about their carbon footprint when they included an image of a hydroelectric project on their 1Q bill.
Open thread. Images of Qualtoos bills and coins welcome.

I’m not sure of the context. I little bit of googling tells me it is a currency that comes from Start Track and has something to do with betting. Is this some how related to carbon credit trading?
John–
Yes. Quatloos are the currency used by the Masters when betting on Thrall Comptitions on Star Trek “The Masters of Triskelion”.
This is reflected in the 1Q bill. Notice on the left, Captain Kirk, dressed as a thrall, is negotiating with the masters themselves. If you look carefully, you will see this bank note is issued by “El Banco Reserva de Triskelion.”
In the end, Kirk convincence the Masters to free the thralls and aid them in establishing a nice civilization. I assume the Master’s decided they should build a hydroelectric facility, which would have been of great use to the former thralls. However, this was not discussed in the Star Trek episode. I’m just going by the evidence on the Quatloo bill I “came across”. 🙂
If you download, read the details and google, you’ll probably discover where that dam really is.
“Quatloos” are the currency of beings who lost touch with physical reality after years of obsessive modeling. They live in small climate-controlled jars and place pointless wagers about short-term surface outcomes. See, The Gamesters of Triskelion.
Well… you got one word right… cash
Since you are much better with statistics than finance, please allow me to simplify… cash pays the xmas bills, you know, what I have to pay the credit card company back for all those GI Joe’s with the kung fu grip. Here we are not talking about anything tangible such as tea bags that I can resell at one of your rallys at a profit, although that might be negotiable.
Now, the Star Trek monopoly money that you attempt to pass off as cash… well that might work with the multitude of folks that believe in the whole global warming thing… that giving their money to Al at the Chicago exchange (is Blago running that now?) for carbon credits will somehow save the planet… maybe they should take Cap’n Kirk off the loo and put a popular snake on there… you know, Jimmy Da Snake carbon oil credits… anyways, let’s not get too far off track here
Cash, honey. Cash… preferably that good old green stuff with In God We Trust and Mr Franklin on it. Although, Euros will do… just let me know the exchange rate so I don’t make a fool of myself at the bank.
Sincerely, Mike C
George cites those who: “lost touch with physical reality”.
To Quat or not to Quat –
that is the Question!
Can Queries be Quatified?
or do Quarrels arise?
I may need to reconsider my participation, and
posit proposing positively promising positions. 🙂
It’s obvious that the quatloo presented is counterfeit. It shows an idyllic hydroelectric plant at Cerron Grande, El Salvador (“El Salvador” being shown in raised portion of the bill). Satellite maps show the actual plant to be scaled down (no massive dam wall – an aspiration worthy of wager by any Provider).
Salvadorans use their currency, the colon, in parallel with the dollar (whether they continue to use the dollar, time will tell). Likely, the Providers would bet against the thralls likewise paralleling the quatloo with the dollar right now.
Master thrall Galt (he with a glide in his step despite judges robes revealing no arms or pockets) should alert the Salvadorans to the attacks on their currencies.
Oops, the “extra time on my hands” is gone.
Brian
That’s not a hydro plant, it’s Aztec ruins
Brian Flynn,
Counterfeit! Counterfeit!
I’ll have you know no Quatloo is more genuine than that Quatloo!
Dams kill fish. At least oil doesn’t kill fish.
Okay, honestly, the degree to which I care about fish is…very little. Unless they are tasty.
I think quatloo must be a volume of nourishing or hallucinogenic gas because what else is a disembodied brain going to value?
Kind of like h-index.
“The plural of anecdote is not data.”
That was a quote I discovered while searching for the correct plural of quatloo, to uncover the website Quatloos, about financial fraud and such. It was disappointing to find the plural requires only the addition of “s” when I expected something more otherworldly. I don’t know if Quatloos discusses intellectual hoop jumping, trying to force data to fit a theory.
hehe,
That’s precious Lucia. A while back I went hunting for the first thread on CA where I introduced the quatloo currency for climate science bets.. I think it was when you and Dr. Curry faced off against Dr. G. Anyway, this find of yours was perfect.
Don B-What about Anecdata?
Anyway, this thread is sufficiently random that I don’t feel I would be derailing it to much if I said: Wow! Me and the President agree about something!

Are you the same Mike C who was at LGF? I think I might owe you a few quatloos from over there.
You must have been banned for showing up at a ‘denier’ site.
Our 25 Quatloo coin: http://umbra.nascom.nasa.gov/images/latest_mdi_igram_thumbnail.gif

Grumble. Images invited, but no imgs accepted.
Now to see who is the first to spot why it’s a 25 Quatloo coin.
I’ll bite. Why is it a 25 quatloo coin?
The Sun rotates in 25 days (at the equator). I’d say somethng about new spots every day, be sure to collect the whole set, but the factory seems to be having trouble with the spots.
Are Quatloo bills made from wood fiber?

I don’t think a quatloo is worth squatloo
Nope, I haven’t been to an LGF (what ever that is)
Now, let us stop distracting from the real issue at hand…. Lucia gets ejected from Chip’n’Dales for slipping Quatloos to the dancers and now is trying to pass them off as prizes in a climate contest!
The shame of those lukewarmers!
Anthony, thanks for not including a picture.
