I’m getting “forbidden errors” on some posts, and comments on some posts. I don’t know why. This is posted to test whether comments work on new posts.
Update: comments seem to be working on all posts now. It appears to have been due to some spam protection I had in place. I don’t understand why the 403 error blocked some posts but not others. I’ll be looking into it further though.
tests.
Hmm… the do work. The problem seems to be on posts with long titles. If you have difficulties on some posts, drop the comment in another post. Then, I’ll eventually figure out what’s happening.
The edit feature is broken. If I edit a comment the change will not appear after clicking submit. However, the change will appear after some time (longer than 10 minutes). I have tried clearing my browser caches and found no difference. I am using IE7.
Hmmm… that’s probably an interaction between the “caching” feature for the blog in general and the edit feature. (Caching blog pages is useful to prevent using too much CPU and having your hosting company become unhappy with you.)
I’ll look into that.
It’s separate from the other problem. I’m going to have to explore on the comments issue. It seems to affect posts with long titles only. (Once solution is to have shorter titles. Right?)
A system upgrade
proves chaos theory is true.
Whither troll comments?
And GCM models are always upgrading. Damn, I might have to conclude they are getting something right besides getting grant money. Lots of chaotic results. LOL. Though I really do wonder if they take version 1.1, 1.2 … and compare to AR4 ++good model, and compute distribution and anomaly differences for the different tuning parameters in the models. Most especially if they add a new and improved parameter. Do they do a sensitivity study with predefined tests? Just wondering.

We could calculate the central tendency from the models ourselves!
I get
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /musings/2008/gmst-projections-vs-observations/: on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I write this, not because I really wanted to recalculate the nonsense, but rather because it might be another problem with the upgrade.
Keep up the great work
Hello Thomas–
Yes. We can calculate the central tendency ourselves. It’s 2C/century!
I don’t know why he keeps trying to come up with suggestions that it’s not, nor do I know why he doesn’t recognize that his theories of why 2C/century are is “inaccurate reporting” is just blather (i.e. foolish talk.)
Oh, I know I’m in the wrong space, but I can’t find the private line. Sorry.
I want to ask (beg?) permission for something I’ve been doing for quite some time (It just occurred to me that you might not appreciate it, duh, a faithful fan but maybe not the best and brightest!!!)
Because my eyes are bad, I’ve been copying your posts and e mailing them to my Kindle where I can increase the font size and read them easily. I’ve erased them when I finished, but I thought today that I may still be violating your copyright and that you many not appreciate it.
I humbly ask for permission to copy your posts to my Kindle and swear to erase them when I’ve finished them. I not only haven’t copied them and sent them along as my own work, I wouldn’t know how if I my life depended on it.
Thanks so much for your blog, no matter what you say about the copying.
Barbara
Barbara–
That would be absolutely fine! Actually, I think it would not be a violation of copyright even if you didn’t ask. Copying for the purpose of increasing the font size to read it, and later deleting has got to be fair use! Copying and keeping your own private files so you can read them later is likely fine. But, even if it’s not, with respect to my blog, you certaintly have permission!
Great,thanks so much.
I can always read short things on screen, but your writing is so over my head I have to be able to read it slowly and go over it.
Then I noticed that I didn’t see a “Print this article” on your page and thought maybe I was . . .
Thanks again
Barbara
