Is GISS down? The whole site http://www.giss.nasa.gov/ ?
I was reading comments at WUWT, discussing the evolution of NASA’s explanation about their little “Hotter than Hell in Siberia Leads to Record October Anomaly” glitch. So, I decided to visit the about the NASA message to see if it had indeed changed.
No joy. So, I went to the top of the site. No joy.
Anyway, it appears I am not the first to notice this. At WUWT, Dotto commented:
Dotto (05:06:28) :
Just after publishing my findings here I can not access http://www.giss.nasa.gov/ anymore. Strange!
I have copies for 2007 and 2005
Are Anthony’s time stamps West Coast? That would be 7:06 central time. It’s now 8:53 central time. Hmmm… is the whole world visiting GISS’s web site? Or did Hansen take it down? Or is it periodic maintenance?
This excitable gal wants to know!
Maybe they are updating the site using software provided by NOAA 🙂
Lucia,
Update: it’s 08:10 PST right now [11:10 EST] and the GISS still is still not accessible.
1:10 pm…. they are still down.
It’s back up as of 3:45PM Eastern. No change.
They are up, and saying, with great contrition:
“2008-11-11: Most data posted yesterday were replaced by the data posted last month since it looks like some mishap might have occurred when NOAA updated their GHCN data. We will postpone updating this web site until we get confirmation from NOAA that their updating programs worked properly. Because today is a Federal Holiday, some pages are still showing yesterday’s data. ”
MIGHT have happened? , I guess these geniuses aren’t even sure if they were wrong or not……
