Strawberry Haiku

Strawberry shortcake
a delicious June dessert.
I’ll have some next week!

It’s the earliest possible Memorial day.

I transplanted sedum and weeded the perennial beds.

We had a hard frost Monday. Today, I planted tomatoes and peppers; I sprinkled basil seeds last Monday. Am I over eager?

Well, I’m always anxious for summer to start; lucky for me, I have enough tarps and blankets to protect tender shoots. I bought three packages of basil seeds. So, even if the weather turns, I should be safe.

Two years ago, I knew I was safe planting tomatoes well before Memorial day. But this spring has been rather cool. By tradition, peonies bloom for Mother’s day; I cut tulips for our mother’s day bouquet. My tree peony showed three yellow blooms today; the bulbous peonies are still just buds.

Lucky for me, the strawberries I planted last year will bear fruit when they are ready. Perennials know when to bear fruit, and I think I’ll have delectable berries soon.

Enjoy your Memorial day. I will!

  1. My mug came last week,
But there’s no tea to fill it.
    The tea room is shut.

  2. There is no love greater
Than to lay down your life for friends
Thank you military men and women

  3. Strawberry Blossoms?
    Alas, have scarcely appeared.
    Berry crop is late year!
