Early spring morning
unopened daffodil buds
hover over snow.
Spring is here! Yes, it’s normal to get snow in early spring around here. Why do you think everyone wants to spend spring break in Florida?
I thought I’d include the cat door in the picture. That’s how this guy first broke into the house:

I guess he’s a welcomed intruder. Better fatten him up so he can’t leave through the cat door (at least not too easily).
Chad–
He is much fatter than he was last fall when he broke in during a bout of freezing rain. At first, he came and went. When it turned cold, he settled in. We took him to the vet who discovered he was a “he” and was chipped. The original owners live about 5 blocks from here and agreed that since he wants to be here more than there, we could become the “main” family. We were worried that if we returned him in January, there would be a risk of his trying to escape when it was -20F and wandering about looking for our house!
Now that it’s warm, he’s going out again. I suspect he will visit the other family with there other cats, dogs, kids etc. We suspect he likes the calmer house with no dogs and no kids.
Our other cats now tolerate him. In fact, all three will now sit in the same room for hours at a time with none getting grumpy.

That’s what they say about cats; they choose their owners, not the other way around.
Lucia, he is very handsome. Cats choose their humans wisely.

It’s late March, and still
No daffodils. Where’s all that
global warming gone?

Nothing to see here, move along.

Snow and ice are gone
My back is surely breaking
From $#(*&$#@^$#@!! mulch.
Jeff-
Maybe I’ll make my brother spread mulch when he visits… Heh!
Yards are greening
Mind’s eye is seeing:
Mowing, planting, weeding

crocuses blooming
how they know what i needed
spring comes with flowers
Crocuses bloomed Saturday, 20 March in WY. In the 90’s they bloomed within one day of February 28. The last five years they have bloomed within a day of March 20. There have been no major changes in their environment such as trees growing up. Maybe the mulch on the soil is thicker or something in their micro-environment. Otherwise, I don’t know what accounts for the change because they tell their own truth. It is not like reading a top of or bottom of the meniscus kind of thing.
Here in the desert,
we have had some good spring rain.
Bring on the flowers!
Denis–
I’ve moved around too much to keep track of when my crocuses bloomed. Mine are blooming now.
I must confess
The garage is indeed a mess

Really, Evolution is responsible for my disbelief in Global Warming. It’s not the fact that no one can demonstrate that it is true, it’s simply a Personal Preference, which doesn’t really exist anyway, because I unconsciously Evolved into what I am today. It’s Evolution that has failed to toe the party line, not me.
I must admit this made me laugh, when I read it. He Who Thought He Had Heard It All, Heard Something Else. 😉

As you are a fan of the Haiku and numerically inclined, I thought of you when I saw this cartoon over at xkcd:
