He-e-e-e’s Back! (Tom Chalko)

Crack reporting at CBS!

Today’s Quakes Deadlier Than In Past
Study: Seismic Activity 5 Times More Energetic Than 20 Years Ago Because Of Global Warming

The article citing Dr. Tom Chalko appeared in 2008, but is still running. It seems fresher now, doesn’t it? Those with long memories will recall Dr. Chalko’s being discussed previous posts including:

  1. Odd theories for or about Global Warming! In this June 16, 2008 post, we reported the existance of the bioresonant site which tells us,

In 2000 Tom Chalko, inspired by Desmarquet’s report, discovered that the solid nucleus of our planet is in principle a nuclear reactor, it is eccentric, and that our collective ignorance may cause it to overheat and explode. The discovery has been published in June 2001 by the new scientific journal NUJournal.net.

We also learned we could buy bio-reasonant t-shirts.

  2. Three days later, The Blackboard posted, Global Warming Will Cause Earth to Explode! CBS Reports. On June 18, CBS posted an article– but quickly deleted it after the blogosphere exploded with laughter. But it turns out the article has resurfaced. Here’s the screen shot:

By the way, writings by Dr. Chalko include The Thiaoouba Prophecy” which many will find fascinating.

I think his theories on global warming, volcanoes and the propensity for the earth exploding were published in NU Journal of Discovery where you can find PDF versions of “Earthquake Energy Rise on Earth” and “No second Chance: Can Earth Explode as a result of Global Warming?” (summary available in 18 languages).

Update

Proving that crack reporting at newspapers leads to crack reporting at blogs, the linked article is from 2008. What is new is that it’s resurfaced. All traces had vanished back in 2008– we all looked for it, but it was gone!

  1. Shoot! No. I didn’t notice they’d unyanked the article. Liza posted it and I thought it was fresh. (Need… more… coffee!)
    Heh.

  2. Well, at least we can enjoy the feeding frenzy that usually accompanies exposes of patently bizarre claims of warming impacts πŸ˜›

  3. Zeke– I modified. The article had been expunged at CBS back in 2008. We could read it in cache at the time I reported. CBS must have some system of archives, and didn’t fully expunge. I don’t know how Liza found it– maybe searching global warming and earth explodes?

  4. Perhaps Chalko is a source for the latest Royal Society Journal article that claims AGW is going cause more volcanic and earthquake activity?
The credibility is about the same, after all.

  5. I thought it was fresh too Lucia! I am glad it’s gone by the wayside since. Maybe it’s resurfaced because of the recent volcano eruption. I read it on my facebook page. Wasn’t searching for anything at all like this article. I’d have the same reaction if it was 2008. πŸ™‚

  6. Yep Hunter, I just googled and that Royal Society Journal report is on the net in various places too; dated today.

  7. Hunter–
I did see there are global warming->volcanism reports in the news right now. None are as weird as Chalko though.

    Liza–
Yes. I’m surprised CBS didn’t permanently deep-six all Chalko articles. They did take down the one we found back in 2008. At the time, everyone was laughing and googling. I strongly suspect they took down every possible incarnation of the Chalko based news reports.

Obviously, people are going to continue to find these if CBS keeps the page up.

  8. Methinks the Royal Society Journal article is on slightly firmer ground (no pun intended), since its discussing the effect is isostatic rebound on volcanism. I haven’t read the article yet, but I suspect the projected effects are minor in relevant timeframes.

  9. Zeke-
Absolutely. The Royal Society Paper has nothing to do with the Chalko stuff. But people googling for the Royal Society Paper are going to find the Chalko CBS reports.

  10. Zeke (Comment#41097)-So in other words, they are talking about the effects of NATURAL warming?

The rebound since the last glaciation is still going on and is much more substantial than anything that AGW is or will cause.

  11. I think the Royal society article is on the same ground as the Chalko article.
The article is claiming that the Earth will experience a significant increase in vulcanism and earthquakes due to CO2.
Even if the melting in future years is significant, will it be (as Andrew FL points out) it is nothing compared to past glacial thaws when sea levels changed in tens of meters and continental ice caps in Asia and North America receded thousands of miles.
So where are the ash lines related to big thaws of the past?

  12. LoL…

and some wonder why engineers tend to be so sceptical of so much that comes out of academia.

the latest Royal Society Journal article on this same subject also reinforces the view that many academics are only playing with a short deck.

I mean…if they were any good, they would get a real job.. πŸ™‚

As I have friends in both groups over together at times, I will admit that the above line comes up going both directions.

  13. Here’s a conjecture.
It’s possible that the UK Royal Society is as wedded to climate change as the UK Met Office is. Not necessarily because of the science but because of the political stance that the RS has taken in recent years, especially under Robert May.

People who, for whatever reason, want to make progress in the RS ‘hierarchy’ have to follow the prevailing political wind. So the result is articles like this one.

  14. There recently was a study of neutrinos from inside the Earth. There are too few neutrinos coming from inside the planet for there to be a fission reactor operating, so the fission/decay which is happening is scattered and disorganized.

  15. lucia,

Is your headline supposed to be read like “He-e-e-e-r-e-s Johnny!”?

Or is it supposed to read like “They’re h-e-e-e-r-e” in the movie Poltergeist?

Just wondering what effect you were aiming for.
