Honor Flight Chicago

I wanted to alert people to a fundraiser for Honor Flight Chicago which will take place at Ballydoyle’s in Aurora tonight.

About a year ago, Jim’s father, a WWII Veteran and many other WWII and Korean War veterans were taken on a wonderful trip to Washington DC. These trips are wonderful. The veterans leave early in the morning, get taken on tours of all the memorials, have lunch with military personal– and get greeted by bands, and happy crowds everywhere they go.

Jim has donated fees to cover other people’s trips and worked as a volunteer to handle some of the veteran’s in wheelchairs. Jim’s brothers, mother and I met the returning vets at Midway late at night. We stood in a crowd of happy families greeting the returning vets and got to watch as the vets were greeted by bagpipes, saluted by members of the military (mostly sailors from Great Lakes Naval Base).

Jim’s Dad who hit-hiked home after WWII had the time of his life.

Of course Jim and I plan to be at Ballydoyle’s fundraiser tonight. (I think funds are raised with a cover charge, but I’m not sure how that works.) So if you live in the area, think this is a worthy cause to support and can come, we can chat!

PS.: I should be done with my various “protect the blog” activities today. The sudden spikes in usage seem to be eliminated– but I had to make the whole thing work more systematically. Thanks Brandon, Chuckles and Kan for some very good advice. I’m not expert at things like .htaccess, security software etc. Your advice really helped!

I’ll be back to posting about temperatures next week.)

  1. Ah Great Lakes. I have many fond, no actually they weren’t that fond, just memorable, memories of the place.

Thank you for this service to our vets.

  2. John V–
Well, last night, my service involved a) drinking beer, b) buying raffle tickets (not winning 🙁 ) c) eating appetizers and d) chatting with other people doing the same thing. It was pretty fun.
