OMG! Zeke Won the Quatloos on the Pachauri Bet!

Pachauri stepped down and Zeke has finally officially won his quatloos!

Remember a l_o_n_g time agin, we discussed When will Pachauri Step Down? and later Bet When Pachauri Resigns. The way the bets worked was you entered the day in 2010 when Pachauri would step down. Zeke bet Pachauri would be step down 1461 days after Dec. 31,2009, making him the person who thought Pachauri would last the longest amount of time in office. Technically, Zeke won more than a year ago, but I’d forgotten about this bet. Here’s what you all bet!

  1. I wonder how my old pal David Gould is doing. Did he get any Quatloos for finishing second?

    Andrew

  2. In light of new metadata, I feel justified in demanding my prediction be changed. Let’s call it a Time Of Observation adjustment. I just needed more time before I wagered.

    Andrew

  3. I actually worked for Pachauri’s organization TERI for a summer internship during grad school many years ago (though not for him personally). Didn’t get any insider information, unfortunately, and didn’t overhear anything about sexual harassment during the 2 months I worked there.

Despite winning, I still was a year too short!

  4. Zeke, your next assignment is to author a paper concerning Time of Resignation (TOR) adjustments.

  5. The only reason I did not bet was that I thought he would never resign. And indeed, he did not resign for reasons related to climate change, unless we say that the climate about sexual harassment has changed.

  6. denny,
The reason for the resignation was unrelated to climate change. The structure of betting is such that I can’t have a “reason” disclaimer. Once he steps down it’s over!

Of course this was rather unpredictable, but that’s in the nature of betting.

Are you sure about that? The UN “fact sheet” on Women, Gender Equality, and Climate change asserts that women “also face increased risk of sexual harassment and assault,” due to climate change.

Therefore, Pachauri can cite research that “the climate made me do it.”
