NYDF: Free Livestream Opportunity

I had trouble posting a new post; I updated php a bit further. Maybe that will fix it. So this is a test. (It will be an open thread.)

Below is what I planned to post

I told people I would alert them to free livestreams. The New York Dance festival is streaming live. You can look for the “watch live” button at their site: New York Dance Festival.. The link to the live stream is on the top right hand side of the main page.

You may need to register at another site first. That’s also free– and maybe a bit of rigomorole.
dancecomp.com

After you register, go back to the New York Dance Festival, because it’s the least confusing way to find the live stream.

My pro and his wife will be competing on Sunday, supposedly at 11:01 pm 10:21PM
Session 9 – Sunday Evening@10:21PM Sunday
Later rounds:
9@11:41PM Sunday
9@12:01AM Monday

That’s Eastern Time. Competitions are horrible about being on schedule, so the tell dancers to be prepared to go on up to an hour early or late. Also, the “later rounds” are for those who get recalled. So the full final is the 12:42 AM Monday slot. I’ll stay up. You don’t have to.

Open thread.

  1. It’s going on all day!!! LOL! The best stuff will be this evening. Bewteen 6 pm to after midnight (Eastern)

    Pre-Teen Latin Championship
    Open Amateur Ballroom Championship
    Junior Latin Championships
    Professional Open Smooth Championship
    Professional Open Latin Championship
    2024 NYDF Top Awards

Pre-teen are cute. Since it’s a big competition, Open Amatuer will be fun. Junior latin is below… hmmm… 18? 21?
Things will be interlaced– notice there are quarter finals.

Profession Open Smooth is what my pro and his wife are dancing.
Professional Open Latin….I’ll almost certainly watch the quarter finals because those will between the Smooth quarter final and the Smooth semi final. But I’ll go to bed after the Smooth final.

Latin is great. Costumes have gotten more modest. (I swear back in 2019, they were like bikinis with a wisp of fabric attached. Now they are “more”. They range from “Mardi Gras” to a variety of other things.)

If you listen, listen for Nalyvaichuk, which will be mispronounced. You don’t know how to say it anyway so it doesn’t matter. I’ll ask Vlad his bib number. (He’s tall and blond. She’s tallish and brunnette.).

  2. If you are thinking of watching, there is a new time listed:
    Session 9 – Sunday Evening@10:21PM Sunday
    Later rounds:
    9@11:41PM Sunday
    9@12:01AM Monday.

Also, if you do watch but miss them announcing the competitors, it’s bib number 380. (This is a huge competition. Usually pros bib numbers are below 300!)
