December UAH bets

I’ve been so enthralled with R that I forgot to post the betting script! So, without further ado, those who would like to bet on the December UAH temperature that will appear at Roy Spencer’s blog in January can enter those here:

Form deleted.

Cut-off day for bets is Dec 24– Christmas Eve!

  1. Tim W–
I’m going to have to modify the form to include “hidden fields” that trick the ‘bots. Then I might be able to let people who can’t add bet.

  2. My test was 19 + 0.5

I typed 19 and a 1/2 in the answer box. This apparently was wrong. It never was my strong suit. I’ll have to try again

  3. I have been out of the roll for a while, but this time I will disregard the GSLP (“gas station localization principle”) and rather employ shameless speculative eye-balling.
As the Raw Ch5 values seems to have apporached the long time average (since approx july), I expect the “relative cooling” to continue. I therefore suggest .213

Has your relationship with R become a hate/love one.

  5. Waiting for Godot? No, for HadCrut3. They still have not published their November anomaly. Guess they wait for 2011 to do both November and December, so they know what and how much to manipulate to get the desired record year.
How about allowing us to bet on Hadley-November until X-mas day?

  6. I am surprised that no one seemingly has noticed that the December UAH anomaly will be reported versus a new baseline. Are the bets going to be measured against the “reported anomaly”, which will be calculated from the new baseline?

  7. PaulK2–
The bets are always calculated based on whatever Roy reports!
I guess I should post a comment for people to know this….

  8. Sorry, I wanted to put 0.23, and for some reason set the point wrong. Delayed dyslexia or early Alzheimer’s . 🙁
My brother, who has survived three strokes in 20 years and is fairly functional, has great difficulty with decimal places. If he tells you something costs 200euro, you have to check. It could be anything from 2 euro to 2000 !

  9. Before deadline, I had a .18 (or .185?) guess through the online form (not shown) — were we required to post as well?

  10. Mccall– On reflection, I changed my mind about adding your bet.

I’d have added it if you brought the issue to my attention earlier and/or if your email was a regular bettor. But, based on your email, it appears this would be the very first time you ever bet. And… well… it would be very weird to have the winning bet be a value revealed to me less than 6 hours before Roy posts. So, even though I believe you are sincere, I can’t really enter 0.18 for you at this late time. Sorry about that.

You don’t need to post your bet– but after you enter, you should get a message that says you succeeded.

Anna V– I did change your bet to 0.23

  11. No problem — I’m shocked at the actual result too! btw — I believe it’s my 2nd bet on yours, but the other may have been ice level or temp a month or two pre-quatloos betting. It was a good prediction then too — 3rd or 4th place as I recall, and placed well in advance of closing. I’m not a regular bettor (viewer, yes), but will try again…

  12. mccall– did you use a different email? I could find lots of comments, but no bets under the email you use for posting.
