Our snow vanished!

Can you believe the temperature rose 61 F in 56 hours? According to WGN weather, the temperature at O’Hare airport was 0F at 6 am Thursday morning and 61F at 2:18 pm today. (The 61F is a record high for Dec. 27.) The 6″ of snow on my lawn had mostly melted over night, and is now all gone.

The temperature has started to drop and expected to end up near the high end of normal as the year ends.

  1. While looking at Yahoo weather for Athens Greece, I was surprised to see Chicago having a higher day temperature than us !! so I looked and saw the hot front sweeping through.

    Weather after all.

  2. Raven–
We experienced Chinooks in Richland, Wa. Due to the general flatness around Chicago, we don’t get those here.

Our weather is often wild. Sometimes the wind races down from the pole, sometimes it swoops up from the Gulf. This is normal Chicago weather on steroids!

Anna– Yes. This is a front. We should be colder than Greece today!

  3. Peter– Yes. It was 0F. Thanks. It was -5F earlier in the week. The squirrels didn’t even visit to mooch peanuts when it was that cold.

Magnus– On the Gore theory, maybe there is some well known denialist who brings warm fronts in his wake? If each visits one after the other, we’ll get the wacky weather.

  4. When Gore arrives his ego blocks out the sun, the hot air he generates coupled with the return of the sun then causes the warming by the time he leaves.
