Voting for Best European Blog (Non UK) Is Open

The 2008 Weblog Awardss seems to be opening up voting starting at the bottom and working up. Readers may recall there are three climate blogs listed in “Best Science blog”. It turns out two other climate blogs appeared: The Reference Frame is up for Best European Blog (Non UK) and Jennifer Marohasy is up for best community.

Poll Status:

  1. Best European Blog (Non UK) are open. Lubos of The Reference Frame has taken the lead with 4 of 8 votes.
  2. Best Online Community is not open.
  3. Best Science Blog OPEN.

The rules are also posted. They seem as fair as possible for on line voting. Evidently, you can vote in each poll once every 24 hours from an individual computer.

  1. I don’t know why online polls fascinate me, but they do. With 859 votes in, WUWT has 242, Pharyngula 249. The rest are languishing.

  2. I should add that Lubos is dominating the Best European Blog. Jennifer is well behind in her category; the blog in the lead has a huge lead.

  3. MikeC– Anthony is pulling ahead. I anticipate Boris is going to be disappointed. I suspect Anthony’s commanding lead over Steve will cause their mutual fans to vote for Anthony. The skeptic/lukewarmer vote won’t be split.

It looks like Myers vs. Watts now.

I was hoping I could embedd the current results here, but evidently I can’t. I have to click the link to visit the awards site. Oh well….

  4. I share the fascination for polls and especially for their sometimes strange “symmetry breaking” dynamics .
As a very long timer poster at CA I have voted for Steve because it is there where one finds objectively the best science but I noticed that that the poll is now a forgone conclusion .
Anthony and Steve “chase” rather similar grounds but with an IID science blog active population , Steve’s readers are centered more to the right of the curve . That’s why he will loose to Antony .
    .
On a particular note , Lubos’ blog is not a climate blog even if he took interest in that branch and considers that what currently passes for climate “science” is very bad physics .
The Reference Frame is hardcore theoretical physics (often about quantum gravity but not only) commented by one of the most brilliant theoretical physicist out there .
Although he’s sometimes out of range even for people knowledgeable with quantum field theory , his memos are a treat for every physicist .
I recommend to read his last memo about “Gravity and thermodynamics” , it’s excellent .

  5. Anthony is at 1126; Myers at 713.

Given that people get very upset about these things at blogs and forums and then they start trying to drum up votes and voting continues, Myers could overtake Anthony in 24 hours.

Plus, we can’t overlook the possibility that weblog awards might not have learned how to harden their voting script, and vote-bots could take over the race.
