August Channel 5 Anomaly

It’s Sept. 1 and time to bring you the most useless of all anomalies. The August Channel 5 AMSU anomaly computed by from the average Channel 5 AMSU data for August:

August Channel 5 anomaly
August Channel 5 anomaly

As you can see it’s 0.3291 C; this is lower than July’s value of 0.4343C. So, those who bet August would be cooler than July are likely to win some Quatloos. When Roy announces, the more accurate UAH lower troposphere temperature, we’ll see who won the poll!

  1. Its fascinating that people are so transfixed by changes of hundredths of a degree inferred in the measurements from satellites as if this meant something significant.

    We’re all mad.

Not to worry, we humans probably have a hard-wired proclivity for games. It appears completely cross-cultural.

Not too long ago an American (whose name eludes me for the moment) came up with a very elegant solution to an old Wittgenstein’ian puzzle. He (W.) claimed it was impossible to give a choerent definition of (what constitutes a) “game” in all it’s amazingly diverse forms.

The recent solution is fairly short and looks like a quite effective answer to the W.problem:

“A game is the voluntary overcoming of unneccessary rules”.
