Hendrik Svensmark Heart Attack

I read about Svensmark’s hear attack, then checked google news. There aren’t many stories. The particularly unusual thing about the event is it occurred while filming. It’s sort of upsetting to watch… but with more than 120,000 views, I know darn well people do want to see the short clip:

Svensmark evidently has a pacemaker. He’s also evidently recovering.

  1. I wonder if he has an implanted defibrillator.

Either he got hit with some very sharp, sudden chest pains, or perhaps the video shows the defibrillator making two attempts to restart the proper heart rhythm.

  2. You surely recognize the quote, Lucia? Jones on Daly’s demise? If that doesn’t bail me then I claim reference to “He’s also evidently recovering.”

  3. I think it very likely that he has an implanted defibrillator-pacemaker. I have one which has never gone off but I’ve been told that it looks like that when they do.

  4. He does have an implanted defibrillator-pacemaker. His name is Henrik, Lucia – not Hendrik (common dutch name, I believe).
He’s alright now, I think. So not so cheering news, Zeroth 😉

  5. I hope he makes a relaxing recovery. I’ve watched a few of his lectures and it encouraged me to learn more about the science involved.

Yes, that seems to be the case. I did some work on those while I was at Uni and they’re a nice example of the way science and technology extend and improve the quality of life. I also discovered biomedical instrumentation requires much more rigorous test and data than climatology seems to accept.

  6. Lucia,
Forget Google. Try BING: no problem finding hits/stories on Svensmark’s condition. Maybe after making it hard to find “Climategate”, Google has trown a wet blanket over anything relating to “skeptics” while Copenhagen is on? 🙁

Have just spent two days in the Copenhagen/Malmo area [on other honest to god business I might add..]: the number of AGW apparatchniks and sherpas wearing COP15 ID badges and generally hanging around all over the place is overwhelming: 20,000 “delegates” is a lot of people…
I spoke with a few of them and it is quite obvious that the AGW/ACC machinery has become a self perpetuating, publicly funded monster that internally and externally justifies its existence largely by being caught up in its own closed univers, unwilling and unable to consider anything else and completely absorbed by its own mantras and beliefs.
The resulting circular thinking and self perpetuating mentality was scarily summarized by Tony Blair’s comments earlier today, to the effect that doesn’t matter whether the science supports “what we are doing”, ” have to act anyway”!
It is not about the science, as he openly acknoweledges and in reality never was: the science was cherry picked by the IPCC to support the UN’s overarching goal: remaking the world economy through a massif transfer of wealth. If anyone still harbours doubst about that aspect of the scheme they should take a look at the demands of the developing economies who without blinking an eyelid are asking for US$100 billion per year in “carbon compensation” from the developed economies for the decades until 2050. At a total of some 3 trillion you somehow know that we’ve all gone off the deep end. Thank heavens, based on what has transpired today during the ongoing “negotiations” the whole exercise appears to be imploding..

  7. If there was any lingering doubt about Google and what side of their biscuit is buttered…

    Ooooooh!

  8. I’m surprised people are interested in watching a person having a heart attack! Very strange, IMO.

BTW, last summer an uncle of mine had his implanted de-fib go off 14 times in a row (entirely errantly, so they determined after reviewing the records). He survived and now has a ‘more reliable’ implant.

  9. I think is not a heart attack. Probably is a malfunction of one cable of the difribillator implant. I’d like to know. I have been myself a victim one month ago and I recognise in the video the same effects that I suffered myself (I had nine discharges in a few hours). By the way , the company (in my case Medtronic) made an announcement of the possible failures on one cable some months ago to the medical staff, but pacients with the implants like me were not adverted.
